Q: I have to work downtown during RNC. My work swears the Republican National Convention won't affect us. I typically take Bayshore over Platt Street bridge or, if that is closed, I take Kennedy down Jackson. How am I going to get back in forth to work that week? What streets are closed?
A: Traffic patterns around the convention site will be up in the air until the Secret Service decides where it will establish its security perimeter and fence.
City officials say that won't happen until mid- to late July. Given that the Platt Street bridge delivers traffic under the Tampa Convention Center, though, and the convention center will definitely be within that security perimeter, odds are high the bridge will be closed during Aug. 27-30 convention.
Mayor Bob Buckhorn has suggested as much in discussions about the RNC.
Still, the city hasn't announced street closings so far.
