Sun Country Airlines Tries To Allay Customer Fears

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Sun Country Airlines, which announced plans to resume service at Tampa International Airport in November with seasonal nonstop flights serving Minneapolis, took steps to alleviate passenger concerns the carrier might conduct layoffs or shut down as early as Dec. 1.

The Minnesota-based airline said customers with reservations and tickets "have nothing to worry about" because Sun Country's credit-card bank retains funds until passengers fly and would issue refunds if flights were canceled.

Sun Country last week filed a federally required notice providing 60-day notice of a major layoff or shutdown.

"We have been very open about the financial challenges we face since the situation with our parent company developed last week," Sun Country said in a prepared release. "However, over the past week, we have made progress in negotiating with vendors and identifying additional sources of revenue. We have taken the very difficult step of instituting a pay deferral but have received employee support during this challenging time."

Sun Country has flown from both Tampa International and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International airports.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed that Sun Country and so many other airlines out there make it through this rough patch," said Trudy Carson, director of air service development at Tampa International Airport. .
