Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation has launched a special section on its Web site devoted to homeowners whose policies will be canceled by State Farm over the next three years.
The site, www.floir.com/statefarmdocs.aspx, provides State Farm policyholders key information about State Farm's plan to drop more than 700,000 homeowners polices statewide.
The information includes a timeline for the cancellation of policies, resources for obtaining alternative coverage, a list of the state's top home insurers, and several documents and statistics related to State Farm's plan to withdraw from the state.
The information also includes links to the state's Shop and Compare Rates Web site and the Florida Market Assistance Program. These services can help homeowners compare rates and locate insurers that are writing new policies in Florida
"I think we've tried to meet almost every type of request that we've gotten over the last several months," said Ed Domansky, a spokesman with the Office of Insurance Regulation.
State Farm announced this month plans to get out of the property insurance business in Florida after state regulators rejected the company's request to raise rates 47 percent on average statewide. Under State Farm's proposal, rates for some homeowners in Pinellas County would have jumped more than 90 percent.
