Skipper's Co-Owner Retiring But Not Leaving Restaurant

TAMPA - Vince McGilvra, co-owner of Skipper's Smokehouse, will retire from his day-to-day duties at the restaurant and music venue at the end of June, an official confirmed today.

McGilvra will retain his 50 percent ownership in Skipper's at 910 Skipper Road, but he will hand over the marketing duties to longtime friend Mark Warren on June 30, said Bonnie O'Connor, the restaurant's general manager.

"He's not selling out; he's just retiring," O'Connor said Friday.

McGilvra and business partner Tom White bought Skipper's in 1980.

McGilvra was out of town today and could not be reached. To celebrate his retirement in style, Skipper's will throw a party for McGilvra on June 29, O'Connor said.
