The economy may be tattered, but there are plenty of reasons for consumers to feel good in this market. For one, it no longer costs more to fill up the gas tank than it costs to take your sweetheart out to dinner. The following price comparisons may inspire gratitude.

Average price of gasoline in the Tampa Bay area: $1.92, compared with $3.11 a year ago

Average price of gasoline nationally: $1.89, compared with $3.10 a year ago

Median sales price of a house in the Tampa Bay area: $152,300, compared with $209,000 a year ago

Average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rate: about 5.5%, compared with 6.21% a year ago

Average used-vehicle price at auction: $9,430, compared with $9,775 a year ago

Average used SUV price at auction: $10,500, compared with $12,915 a year ago

Average price of a 32-inch LCD TV: $858, compared with $958 a year ago

Average price of a Blu-ray player: $315, compared with $370 a year ago
