After being on the market for a year, the Valpak coupon company is no longer for sale.
Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises Inc. announced a decision to keep the company that mails tens of millions of iconic blue envelopes each week, stuffed with coupons on oil changes, plumbers and pizza.
Cox officials said the Valpak organization has made such strides in new digital ventures and become so efficient that the organization should be kept.
"This is tremendous news for the people of Valpak," said Greg Bicket, president of Cox Target Media, which employs 1,000 people in Pinellas County at a massive factory off Interstate 275.
Employment is down from 1,400 in December 2008.
In a statement, he said, "Valpak has had an outstanding year as we focused on operational excellence and driving product innovations that fit the new marketplace so dramatically changed by economic conditions."
