Syniverse Gets Nod For India Work
Tampa-based mobile phone systems company Syniverse Technologies is one of two U.S. companies selected by India's government to help implement a system for mobile phone number portability. The company will provide clearing and settlement services for a 10-year period under the contract announced by the company Monday.
McClatchy Announces 1,600 Job Cuts
Newspaper publisher McClatchy Co. said Monday it will shrink its work force by an additional 15 percent as it contends with sharply declining revenue amid a deepening recession.
The 1,600 job reductions should help the publisher of The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee and other newspapers meet previously announced plans to save up to $110 million in the next year.
Whopper Bar Debuts At Universal Orlando
Universal Orlando this week is opening Burger King's first Whopper Bar, along with a Moe's Southwest Grill and Panda Express, at Universal's CityWalk.
The Burger King, which will allow customers to personalize menus based on the Whopper sandwich, will open today; Panda Express and Moe's Southwest Grill will open Thursday.
Disney Sets Targets To Reduce Waste
The Walt Disney Co. says it's going green to make itself more attractive to consumers by reducing waste, pollution and use of natural resources.
The company has set three- to five-year targets to reduce emissions, waste, electricity, fuel use and to improve its impact on water and ecosystems. Among its long-term goals, Disney wants to produce zero waste and minimize water use.
