Tesla Motors unveiled a more family-friendly electric vehicle Thursday in Hawthorne, Calif., that will go on sale by 2011.
The $57,400 Model S is a five-door sedan that will sell for about half the price of its $109,000 Roadster and go 160 miles on a charge. A high-end version will go 300 miles on a charge and cost about $100,000.
Tesla expects to sell 20,000 a year. It has applied for a low-cost government loan of $350 million to fund its efforts but said it will proceed with or without it.
