In another sign that the furor over swine flu is dying down, Carnival Cruise Lines announced today that its ships will stop again in Mexican ports.
In a statement, the cruise line said its decision was weighted heavily on the latest advice from the Centers for Disease Control, which has discontinued its recommendation against non-essential travel to Mexico.
A ship-by-ship listing for when each vessel will resume its original itinerary is available at http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/cruise-control/itinerary-updates.aspx.
"We are very pleased to resume our previous itineraries to Mexico, one of the cruise industry's most popular destinations, and we thank those guests who were impacted by the modified schedules in recent weeks for their understanding and patience," Gerry Cahill, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines, said in the company statement.
The cruise line said it will continue to follow CDC guidelines for cruise ships, including pre-boarding health questionnaires for travelers and crew members. The company also noted all Carnival ships stock influenza test kits and antiviral medications for treating type A influenzas.
Carnival has two ships that sail out of Tampa.
