Security lawyers form new firm, split with Fowler White Boggs

At least 10 business lawyers have broken off from the venerable Fowler White Boggs law firm to form their own.

Burton Wiand, a partner at Fowler White Boggs and a court-appointed receiver in the Arthur Nadel Ponzi case, will chair the new firm, which is called Wiand Guerra King PL. Other Fowler White partners who left the downtown Tampa firm are: George Guerra, Peter King, Kacy Donlon, Gianluca Morello, Elaine Rice and Michael Lamont.

Lawyers Robert Jamieson, Dominique Heller Pearlman and Maya Lockwood, who were not partners at Fowler White Boggs, also are joining Wiand Guerra King, according to the firm's Web site.

Fowler White Boggs had a major shakeup in the summer of 2008 when one of its named partners, Bob Banker, broke away to form his own firm. About 60 lawyers, many of whom practiced insurance law, joined him at Banker Lopez Gassler.

Rhea Law, chief executive officer of Fowler White Boggs, said the split with the Wiand group is amicable and wasn't a reflection on her law firm. She said Wiand is looking to become a boutique securities firm, with some specialization in court receiverships.

Wiand Guerra King will handle complex business matters, focusing on financial services, securities and investment-related litigation, a release said.
