A county task force released a list of 27 potential non-transit projects Monday that could be funded with 25 percent of a proposed 1 cent increase in Hillsborough County's sales tax intended to improve transportation.
The majority of the proposed sales tax increase would support bus and rail improvements, including the area's first light rail system.
But members of the Hillsborough County Transportation Task Force, who are working on language for the tax referendum they'd like the county commission to put before the public in November 2010, agree more than rail and bus improvements must be promised for the tax initiative to gain support.
One portion of recommendations that task force members are fine-tuning acknowledged that "non-transit needs are the most critical element for passage of a transit tax."
Those projects include expansions on Bruce B. Downs and Lutz's Lake Fern Road and Van Dyke Road.
Priorities in Tampa would include projects on 22nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
An Alexander Street extension would be considered in Plant City along with sidewalks on 56th Street in Temple Terrace between Fowler and Fletcher avenues.
All plans for new rail, bus and non-transit projects are in preliminary discussion stages, with corridors, types of technology and costs yet to be determined.
