Lenders to cover foreclosure costs
Lenders will be required to pick up the tab for investigating and verifying ownership before foreclosing on Florida home mortgages under new mediation rules.
The Florida Supreme Court adopted the rules Thursday to help the state's judicial system cope with a flood of cases.
Florida has the nation's fourth-highest foreclosure rate.
EBay ordered to pay damages to Vuitton
EBay Inc. will pay about $316,500 to Louis Vuitton Malletier for legal costs and damages and will stop using Internet search terms that the luxury goods maker protested after a ruling Thursday by the Paris District Court.
EBay spokeswoman Alina Piacentino said the company will appeal the decision.
EBay had been buying keywords such as "Viton," "Vitton" and "Wuiton" so that online shoppers using the misspellings in a search, along with anyone using the brand's correct spelling, would be directed to links promoting eBay, a Louis Vuitton spokeswoman said.
Drop in jobless claims is bigger than expected
The number of newly laid-off people seeking unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week to the lowest total in a month, a sign the job market might be improving.
The Labor Department said that first-time claims for unemployment insurance dropped by 43,000 to a seasonally adjusted 440,000. Wall Street economists expected a smaller decline of 15,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.
The jobless claims report was the first of the year that wasn't affected by a holiday backlog.
