Progressive Insurance expects to fill 390 positions at its Riverview customer service center by summer, the company said Tuesday.
The Mayfield Village, Ohio-based company announced it has begun hiring additional salespeople and customer service and claims representatives at its Crescent Park Drive campus in Riverview.
Applicants should have experience dealing with customers but do not need to have worked at a call center or in the insurance industry, said John Hoppes, Progressive's national employment director.
Phone representatives will earn $12 to $15 an hour depending on role and experience and are eligible for medical insurance and other benefits, he said. More information is available at www.progressive.com/jobs.
Progressive already employs about 2,300 people in Hillsborough County, Hoppes said.
Insurers are among the few major employers that continued to hire throughout Florida's recession and its weak recovery. Health insurer Humana has added more than 1,000 employees in the Tampa Bay area since 2009, including hundreds at the NetPark business park on Hillsborough Avenue.
Hoppes said Progressive did not seek tax credits or other economic incentives from the state or local governments to create the 390 jobs.
