Tampa Area High On List For Relocating Singles

If you're tired of bad real estate news, here's encouragement: Tampa is the top metro area in Florida for singles who relocate, according to an industry survey.

It gets better: The Bay area ranked 11th among the nation's 100 largest metro areas.

"Relocating to a city can be both exciting and overwhelming for an individual," said Michelle Vallejo, spokeswoman for the national relocation companies that issued the report. "This survey identifies those factors that help ease the transition for singles while helping [human resources] professionals better predict the success rates of their employee transfers."

The survey was conducted by Washington-based Worldwide ERC, an association of corporate and government relocation managers, real estate companies, movers and service firms. The Memphis, Tenn.-based Primacy Relocation, an employee-relocation service, also participated.

The survey measured issues affecting a newcomer's experience in the weeks and months after a transfer.

Specifically, it looked at the cost of living, apartment rates, job growth, unemployment rates, education costs and arts and recreation opportunities.

Boston was ranked first, followed by Nassau-Suffolk, N.Y., and New Haven, Conn.

Orlando was ranked 13th. Other Florida metro areas to make the list: Jacksonville (22), Miami (26), West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach (52) and Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice (55).
