What she did: An associate dean at City University of New York before moving to St. Petersburg last winter

What she does: She didn't want a job when she moved. She needed time for self-reinvention.

Her days: Tully spends most of her day connecting with friends and family. She phones, e-mails, meets for conversations over lunch. Recently, she and a friend talked about their past jobs, what moved them, what they wanted to discard. 'Some things just need to be said out loud,' she says.

Every day, Tully writes in her journal and goes to the gym. And, yes, she naps.

Her next act: She intends to return to work, maybe soon. Tully doesn't know exactly when or exactly what she'll do. Her younger self always wanted a crystal ball. Not now.
