The news conference on Thursday in Tampa was unusual and emotional. Alstott will go on the injured reserve list for the year. He doesn't need surgery and plans to keep working with his teammates.
The loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 31 may have been his last in pads at Raymond James Stadium. He exits with his daughter Hannah, son Griffin, and wife Nicole.
Mike and Nicole Alstott shed tears while describing the scary hit he took in a game against the Indianapolis Colts. He was diagnosed with two herniated discs and had surgery to fuse the damaged area in his neck. He returned to play in 2004.
