ST. PETERSBURG - A 35-year-old woman involved in a wreck that killed a 16-year-old passenger in May has been charged with driving-under-the-influence manslaughter.
Katrina R. McGarrah, of 1508 28th Ave. S., was also charged with driving under the influence and marijuana possession, according to court records. She was carrying marijuana in her underwear the night of the accident, the documents say.
McGarrah was arrested Monday.
According to the court documents released today, McGarrah was driving her mother's 2007 Nissan Altima early May 14. She had a cast on her leg and wasn't supposed to be driving, the documents say.
Roderick McCullough, 16, was in the back seat, and Emmitt Carter, 16, was in the passenger seat, authorities have said. They were on their way to a McDonald's restaurant.
McGarrah was driving more than 75 mph in a 30 mph zone in the 3600 block of 37th Street South when the Nissan hit a raised median, the documents say.
The Nissan rotated and struck a tree, flying into the air and flipping before it landed on its passenger side, the documents say. The Nissan started to flip again when it struck another tree, the documents state.
McCullough was killed. Carter's jaw was broken, but he survived, the documents say.
McGarrah's blood-alcohol level was .187 percent more than two hours after the wreck, the records say. Florida law presumes a motorist to be intoxicated if his blood-alcohol level is .08 or higher.
Investigators think McGarrah may also have been under the influence of a controlled substance.
