TAMPA – Skittles, the $2,000 parrot who can bark like a dog, is safe and not a feather was harmed, police said.
Tonight, deputies arrested a man in connection with the bird napping of the parrot from a Petland Store.
Henry Roman, 24, is charged with grand theft stemming from the theft that occurred on Thursday at the Petland on 7699 West Waters Avenue.
The manager from the store called the Sheriff's Office and stated that someone called the store. The manager told police the person wanted to return the stolen bird. The person stated they would be at the McDonalds located at Hanley and Waters avenue.
When deputies arrived, Roman turned over the stolen bird and was arrested at 10 p.m.
The bird was returned to Petland.
The pet store was offering a cash reward for the safe return of the pricey parrot.
Employees at Petland on Waters Avenue had said a man and two women went into the store Thursday and looked at some dogs and birds.
The next thing they knew, the man and Skittles the parrot were gone. Employees said it looked like a planned operation.
"They came here to steal. They might not have known what they were going to steal, but they came here to steal," assistant manager Deidra Rosenberg said.
Skittles is a Yellow-shouldered Amazon parrot who can say "I'm a Rottweiler" and bark like a dog.
