DADE CITY - Get rid of surplus chemicals and other household hazards for free today at the Pasco County Fairgrounds.
County Hazardous Waste Division staff will be there from 9 a.m. to noon as part of Extension Expo 2007: Florida-Friendly Event, which runs until 2 p.m.
Here are some rules for the disposal:
•It's open to Pasco residents only and closed to local businesses.
•Put glass containers in boxes, if possible, with newspapers between each container to help prevent breakage.
Here's a list of acceptable discards:
•Fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides, cleaners, pool chemicals, paint and thinner, wood preservatives and stains, motor oil, automobile batteries, automotive fluids, solvents, dry cell batteries, antifreeze, furniture polish, waxes, gasoline, rubbing alcohol, acids, bases, cooking oil and fluorescent light bulbs.
Here's what waste division workers will not accept:
•Biomedical and radioactive waste, prescription drugs and explosives.
And here are items that will be accepted for a fee (according to ordinances or resolutions):
•Empty 20-pound propane tanks at $3 each
•Computers, monitors and televisions at $5 each
