ST. PETERSBURG - An 81-year-old driver died Saturday after her car collided with a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus, St. Petersburg Police reported.
Theresa M. Brock of 4104 87th Terrace N. died at a local hospital abut 90 minutes after the 12:29 p.m. wreck at the intersection of 49th Street North and 17th Avenue, according to the report.
Brock, who was eastbound on 17th Avenue in a 2004 Buick, and either failed to stop at the stop sign at 49th Street or stopped, then accelerated, the report stated. Her car was struck on the left side by the bus, southbound on 49th Street North.
Brock's passenger, her sister, Jean McDonald of New Port Richey, was injured in the wreck and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Both women were using seatbelts and the Buick's airbags deployed, the report said.
Two of the 12 bus passengers were injured. The driver was Tab E. Ward, 50, of 2205 Lawton Drive, Clearwater.
The driver of a third vehicle involved in the wreck, Rheba Eubanks, escaped injury, police said. Eubanks was southbound next to the bus, and her vehicle was sideswiped when Ward swerved in an attempt to avoid Brock's car.
