TAMPA - Until July, Nathen Trueblood was a regular 2-year-old boy. He loved Curious George, playing with his sisters and tinkering with grownups' cell phones.
Now he faces a rare, potentially deadly form of cancer called neuroblastoma. But his parents' insurance doesn't cover the cost of surgery, which is more than $40,000.
Because Nathen needs the surgery as soon as possible, his friends and family have kicked their fundraising efforts into high gear.
Today, supporters are gathering at the American Legion Post 138 at 5535 Prescott St. for a day of food, live music and family fun to help cover medical bills for Nathen, who has been in the hospital in Oklahoma City since July. The benefit will go until 9 p.m. There is no cover charge to attend, although donations are welcome.
Although Nathen lives in Oklahoma City, his mother, Amanda Camp, is a lifelong South Tampa resident and a graduate of Robinson High School. Her mother, Carolyn Logan, organized the fundraiser.

To make a donation, visit any Bank of America branch and ask about the Nathen Trueblood account.
