LAND O' LAKES - Teachers and other school employees in Pasco could be one step closer to long-awaited raises after the Pasco County School Board meets Monday evening.
The board is scheduled to vote on a tentative contract with United School Employees of Pasco that provides raises averaging 4.05 percent for teachers and 4.42 percent for most other school workers, such as bus drivers, custodians and cafeteria workers.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. in building No. 3 at the district administration offices at 7205 Land O' Lakes Blvd.
Any approval by the school board would be contingent on successful ratification of the contract by the employees, who are scheduled to vote Thursday. The union expects to count those votes Dec. 10.
The raises would be retroactive to July 1, and the goal is to have the contract approved before the winter break, which starts Dec. 24.
The percentages cited include step increases that were paid at the beginning of the school year, making the raises over the step increases about 2.5 percent, said Lynne Webb, president of United School Employees of Pasco.
Under the agreement, starting pay for a first-year teacher with a bachelor's degree would be $36,420, up from $35,300.
In Hillsborough County, starting salary for a first-year teacher with a bachelor's degree is $37,112 a year. In Pinellas County, starting pay is $37,300.
