Andrew Economos: The Ultimate Party Animal?

Published: December 2, 2007

New Orleans might be known for its superior Cajun food, but the overwhelming image most people have of Louisiana's most famous city is partying on Bourbon Street.

Tampa Bay plays today against New Orleans, a city in which they even party at funerals, in a crucial NFC South matchup. The Bucs not only hope to end New Orleans' hopes of getting into division title contention, but also any possible celebrations tonight by Saints fans.

This week, I spoke with Bucs long snapper Andrew Economos about "parties." If anyone knew who he was before reading this, there should be a bash in your honor.

Anwar: If the Bucs had a team party, how many players would recognize you?

Andrew: Everybody on the team.

Anwar: What if it were a Bucs fan party?

Andrew: That's a little bit different. Maybe the bottom 1 or 2 percent. There are a few of them out there who might recognize me, but it's all good. I like it that way. It means I can sneak around. It fits my personality pretty well. I don't like being the center of attention.

Anwar: If all the long snappers in the NFL had a party, would you guys need to wear name tags?

Andrew: A few of us definitely would. There are few of us who are definitely more flamboyant. I heard one of the guys out in San Diego, and I don't know if it's the guy now, used to date Pamela Anderson. I heard it. I don't even know. There are a few guys out there people might recognize, but for the most part, yes.

Anwar: If a long snapper can date Pam, does that give you hope?

Andrew: Oh yeah. I don't know if I can get Pam, but maybe somebody else.

Anwar: If you could invite any of the Muppets to your party, which one would it be?

Andrew: I loved the Muppets. Beaker, by far. He just makes me laugh the most. Those noises he makes just sound funny.

Anwar: What's the most unique party you've ever attended?

Andrew: I'm not big on the party scene, but in the off week when everyone went home, I was at the Pediatric Cancer Foundation Celebrity Fishing Tournament. That was a pretty good party. It was fun. I had a good time. That's what I like to do. I like to fish.

Anwar: So, do you think the fish are having a party when you put a hook in their mouth?

Andrew: I don't know. You hear all types of stories about what they feel and what they don't feel. I know they don't like it, that's for sure.

Anwar: Do you at least throw them back?

Andrew: For the most part. But if we keep anything, we're going to eat it.

Anwar: What's the most memorable birthday party you've had?

Andrew: It used to be a big thing for everyone to go to Sparkles, this roller skating rink in Atlanta. That was probably when I was 6 or 7 years old. That was always fun, but I haven't had too many birthday parties, because my birthday is in the summer (June 24) and I was always playing sports and usually at a game or doing something.

Anwar: What is the strangest costume you've ever worn to a Halloween party?

Andrew: I'm big on costumes. Last year, I was Nacho Libre. I made the whole costume, too. I had the long hair, 'froed it out, grew a moustache. It was nice. I was a gorilla this year. My favorite one was, I was The Joker when I was a kid. I had the green pinstripes, the hat and shoes. It was a good costume.

Anwar: Who is one person in life you would like to party with?

Andrew: I've had some buddies in the military, so I'd hang with any of those guys. Those guys are all my heroes. Any of those guys, or girls. They just amaze me. I know some of them party hard, but they deserve it for what they do.

Anwar: If the Bucs win the NFC South, will you throw a party?

Andrew: Maybe. I'm about to close on a new condo in 30 days. It's not really a party house. I've wanted to throw a cookout for the team, because I like to cook. I just don't know when a good time would be. Maybe after the season.

Anwar: If you do it, will anybody there know your name?

Andrew: Yes.
