BRADENTON - Tampa's Dave Steele won the second annual Florida 400 for non-winged sprint cars at DeSoto Super Speedway on Saturday night, taking the $12,000 first prize.
Bobby Santos, a development driver for NASCAR's Bill Davis Racing, 17-year-old Jacob Wilson in his first sprint car start, 2002 Tampa Bay Area Racing Association champion Shane Butler, and newly crowned 2007 TBARA champion Troy DeCaire completed the top five.
Thirty-three cars started the 400-lap grind three-wide around the banked three-quarter-mile paved oval led by 2007 TBARA Rookie of the Year Brian Gingras, defending race champion Steele, and Santos.
Steele, a two-time United States Auto Club Silver Crown Series champion, took the lead for the first time on Lap 125 when leader DeCaire pitted and lost the lead only briefly for his own two pit stops.
