TAMPA - Tennessee has accepted an bid to play in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day at Raymond James Stadium. The Volunteers will face Wisconsin for only the second time in school history.
Tennessee, which lost to Penn State in the bowl last season, is 1-1 in the Outback. The Vols won eight of their last regular-season games to earn a berth into Saturday's SEC Championship game which they lost to LSU, 21-14.
"Tennessee is an outstanding college football team, and we feel our match-up with the Badgers and Volunteers will be one of the best bowl games this year," Outback Bowl president and CEO Jim McVay said.
The 22nd Outback Bowl will kick off at 11 a.m., and be broadcast by ESPN. Tickets are $65 each and are available at Ticketmaster outlets throughout the state, via phone at (813) 287-8844 and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
Tennessee (9-4) will be making its 47th bowl appearance, which ties for second in all-time appearances.
Wisconsin (9-3), from the Big Ten, accepted an invitation to play in the game last week
The Volunteers won their only previous meeting against Wisconsin 28-21 in the Garden State Bowl in East Rutherford, N.J., on Dec. 13, 1981.
