ST. PETERSBURG - Investigators today released a video they hope will help them solve a string of arsons that occurred over a two-day period last month.
The video shows a man and a vehicle in an alley behind a building at 6400 First Ave. N. that was set afire.
The vehicle, a white or gray colored minivan, possibly a Chevrolet Lumina APV, is seen driving back and forth. Then someone who appears to be a white man is seen getting out of the minivan with something in his hand. The minivan soon leaves, and moments later flames burst from the building.
There were 10 arsons in the same general area in western St. Petersburg on Nov. 11 and 12. Targets included buildings, cars, trash bins, fences and mattresses.
The building at 6400 First Ave. N., which housed a salon and spa, had $50,000 damage. The fire there was the most destructive of the blazes, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said.
All told, the fires caused about $145,000 in damage.
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle is asked to call (727) 893-7780.
