PLANT CITY - A former city commissioner and six-time mayor, Mike Sparkman, has announced his intention to run for a city commission seat in 2008.

Sparkman, 63, who last served on the commission in 2005, said he has notified the city of his intention and asked for a candidate packet.
The commission seats held by Bill Dodson and Robert Brown are scheduled for election in April.
Dodson said on Monday that he recently sent out notification to supporters of his intention to seek re-election.
Brown said he would consult with his family and announce his intentions regarding his candidacy in January.
Sparkman said he doesn't know which of the two seats he will seek.
Sparkman said a lot of people have asked him to seek a seat on the commission.
Sparkman first was elected to the board in 1989 and served almost continuously until 2005. He served as mayor for a record six terms.
