An 18-year-old Lakeland man died after his sedan hit two poles on U.S. 98 just south of Lakeland shortly after midnight, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Michael T. Snipes-Saunders of 711 S. Missouri Ave. was driving a 1998 Suzuki Esteem north on U.S. 98 with two passengers inside when he left the highway at Clubhouse Road and hit a utility pole with the left side of the car. The impact sent the sedan spinning into a pedestrian crossing signal pole.
Snipes-Saunders was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car's two 18-year-old passengers, Miguel Francisco and Ashley Mills, were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
