The Tampa Bay History Center has a long history of its own. At the groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the museum that will be built on Channelside, former History Center Board Chairman Tom Touchton recounted he was first recruited for the project 19 years ago.
He and many others doggedly worked to win financial and political support to make the project possible.
Now the cranes are on site and officials say the waterfront museum, which will tell the story of the region's past with interactive exhibits, could be completed in a year.
That seems awfully ambitious, but you can't blame those who diligently worked to make sure every detail of this project was in order before it proceeded for finally allowing themselves to be in a hurry.
The public should share their excitement about the museum - and the region's rich past.
