TAMPA - As they've been doing since the summer, workers at the Tampa Museum of Art are busy packing the collection, preparing for the big move.
But packing an art museum is no simple task.
"Have you ever packed up a household?" asked Tom Kettner, one of the museum staff members involved in the move. "Imagine doing that for four months. This is not Tupperware that we're handling."
Today, workers spent part of the afternoon packing an ancient, 1,200-pound Roman marble grave marker. It's a complicated job, involving building a crate designed specially for the odd-shaped structure.
The last day the art museum will be open to the public is Dec. 16. Then the museum will move to the Centro Español building while a new building is constructed at the northern edge of Curtis Hixon Park.
