Tebow Fires Back At Jones

GAINESVILLE A day after Hawaii coach June Jones labeled him a "system quarterback" who is "not a natural thrower" in an interview on ESPN, Florida QB Tim Tebow fired a subtle shot at Jones.

Tebow was asked his opinion of Hawaii QB Colt Brennan, the player to whom Jones was comparing Tebow when he made his comments.

"He's a good quarterback," Tebow said. "He's a good quarterback, and he runs a good system."

Jones stood by his comments Monday when he met with reporters.

"My quarterback is the best college football player in America," Jones said. "I did not add Tebow's team has three losses or is not in a BCS game. ... The bottom line is I irritated them because they knew I was right. But I did get a whole bunch of e-mails and calls from Florida State people that said 'Thanks for finally saying that.'"

CHECKING IT OUT: DE Derrick Harvey and TE Cornelius Ingram have submitted paperwork asking the NFL's draft advisory council to give them an idea where they might be selected should they decide to skip their senior seasons and enter the NFL draft.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said he advised Harvey and Ingram, both fourth-year juniors, to get all the information they could to make an informed decision about whether to stay or leave. Harvey is tied for the team lead with 6.5 sacks, while Ingram has caught 33 passes for 491 yards and seven touchdowns.

GATOR BITES: Meyer said OG Jim Tartt missed practice Monday because of mononucleosis. ... Meyer said the coaching staff is trying to help QB Bryan Waggener find a school where he can play right away after transferring. RB Bo Williams also has nearly completed the process to get released from his scholarship, Meyer said. ... Meyer said CB Joe Haden worked out on his own as he tries to rehabilitate his sprained ankle.
