Special Report On Tampa's Fire Hydrants
TAMPA Repairs to fire hydrants will close parts of two heavily- traveled Tampa roadways – Bayshore Boulevard and Hillsborough Avenue – starting this afternoon, the Tampa Water Department says.
Work on both hydrants is expected to begin by midafternoon.
Crews replacing a hydrant at Bayshore and Gandy boulevards will close the southbound right turn lane from Bayshore to Gandy. The turn lane should be opened by late Thursday morning. The water department did not say what time the lane would reopen.
Drivers heading south on Bayshore will be able to turn right on Gandy from the center lane of Bayshore.
Crews also are replacing a hydrant on Hillsborough struck by a car today.
The work will require closing the eastbound outside lane of Hillsborough between Memorial Highway and Webb Road. Eastbound traffic will be merged into the inside lanes.
The water department expects the Hillsborough Avenue work to be finished by Friday
The water department said barricades and signs will be in place at both locations when work begins but suggests drivers to try alternate routes.
