Authorities Seek Family Of Pedestrian Killed In Brandon

BRANDON - Crash investigators have contacted the family of a pedestrian killed Tuesday night on State Road 60, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Robert Worstell, 50, with a last known address of 690 E. Finley St, Eagle Lake, was believed to be homeless.

At 8:10 p.m., Worstell stepped away from the northeast corner of State Road 60 and Ridgewood Drive and walked south across the westbound lanes, the patrol said. A 2005 Hyundai sedan hit him when he reached the inside lane.

Investigators have determined that the driver, 74-year-old Donna W. Smith of Bradenton could not have avoided the impact. She received minor injuries and was rushed to Brandon Regional Hospital.

Worstell was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died, the patrol said.

No charges are expected to be filed.
