SARASOTA COUNTY - A 51-year-old mortgage broker was killed in his office, authorities said Tuesday.
Friends found Brian T. Morrissey, of the 2100 block of Bispham Road, dead in his bedroom Monday with a wound to the head. Morrissey, owner of Key Mortgage Corp., also used the office as an apartment.
Sheriff's detectives said they did not have any leads or suspects Tuesday evening.
George Havas, 56, said he had known Morrissey about 20 years and was with another mutual friend when they found his body.
They said Morrissey, a recovering alcoholic, "dabbled" with drugs but ran a fairly successful business. Morrissey had several drug and alcohol-related arrests in Sarasota and Manatee counties, court records showed.
Sheriff's detectives said Morrissey was killed between Nov. 28 and Monday. Havas said he and the other friend went to the apartment after Morrissey did not show up Friday for a camping trip to Myakka River State Park. They speculated that Morrissey may have been killed by a drug dealer.
"Brian's a good mind when he was sober," Havas said. "He was a nice, bright character, very bright, but he had his moments."
