PHILADELPHIA - North Carolina might not want to wait another 50 years to play in the famed Palestra.
Tyler Hansbrough scored 29 points, Danny Green had 19 and No. 1 North Carolina easily held off overmatched Penn, 106-71, on Tuesday night.
The Tar Heels, coming off an 86-77 win against Kentucky, are 8-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season. They won their first game at the Palestra, the basketball cathedral that's home to Philadelphia's Big 5, since winning the NCAA tournament's East Regional final in 1957.
The Quakers (2-7) used some sensational shooting in the first half to keep the game close for about 15 minutes and send the sellout crowd of 8,722 into an upset-minded frenzy.
They tried to run with the Tar Heels and that was a bad idea. North Carolina wore down the Ivy League's Quakers and got easy points on the break and off turnovers to control the second half.
MICHIGAN STATE 66, BRADLEY 61: Drew Neitzel's clutch 3-pointer started an important 7-0 run and Raymar Morgan scored 15 to help the ninth-ranked Spartans (7-1) rally past Bradley (6-3).
TENNESSEE 76, CHATTANOOGA 70: Chris Lofton had 16 points, JaJuan Smith added 13 and No. 10 Tennessee (8-1) survived a scare to beat host Chattanooga (4-4).
Women
OKLAHOMA STATE 85, WICHITA STATE 39: Andrea Riley scored 22 points and No. 25 Oklahoma State (8-0) beat Wichita State (3-5) in its return to the rankings for the first time in 11 years.
ECKERD 79, NORTHWOOD 54: At West Palm Beach, Eckerd's Javiera Novion scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Tritons (8-0) past Northwood (5-1). It is best start in program history for Eckerd.
