TALLAHASSEE - Pallavi Patel, who helped build the University of South Florida Charter School for Underprivileged Children in Hillsborough County, is among the newest members of the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.
The India-born, board-certified pediatrician has sponsored 25 orphans from India to visit the United States through a cross-cultural program.
Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente, another new member, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 but never missed a court conference or oral argument.
Also being inducted is U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who, during her years in the Florida Legislature, introduced legislation to create Florida's prepaid college tuition plan.
The Florida Legislature created the Women's Hall of Fame in 1992.
