TAMPA - Police have identified a motorcyclist killed Tuesday on Columbus Drive after striking the side of a school bus.
Sergio Batista, 52, of 2715 W. Kathleen St., died about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the collision at Columbus and North Matanzas Avenue, police said Friday.
Police had no information on any charges Friday.
Batista had been traveling west on Columbus in the right lane at about 40 mph when an eastbound Hillsborough County school bus turned north in front of him, police said. Batista braked but struck the side of the bus. He was not wearing a helmet.
The school bus was empty at the time. The driver, Jeanette Johnson, told police she had seen the motorcycle but did not think it was going very fast, a preliminary report states.
