Published: December 7, 2007

TAMPA - University of South Florida sophomore DE George Selvie was named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America team Thursday.

Florida QB Tim Tebow and UCF RB Kevin Smith also were first-team selections.

This is the third All-American honor for Selvie, who was named the Big East's Defensive Player of the Year Wednesday. He also has been selected as an All-American by the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association.

Selvie leads the nation in tackles for loss (31.5) and is second in sacks (14.5).

In other USF news, senior associate AD Bill McGillis said the school has allocated just over 3,600 Sun Bowl tickets, including public sale, students, groups and tickets purchased by the university.

GROBE SHUNS ARKANSAS: Coach Jim Grobe will return next season to Wake Forest, having apparently rebuffed an attempt by Arkansas to hire him to replace Houston Nutt.

"He called and said he wants to continue as our football coach," Demon Deacons athletic director Ron Wellman said Thursday.

The Grobe-to-Arkansas speculation started late Wednesday, after a private university fundraising arm approved a salary supplement for the Wake Forest coach. There was no official word from Arkansas, however, on whether Grobe would replace Nutt.

Wellman declined to say whether Arkansas formally offered Grobe the job.

MILES SIGNS CONTRACT: LSU coach Les Miles has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Tigers through 2012.

The deal was approved Thursday by the LSU board's athletic committee, apparently ending any chance of Miles leaving for Michigan. The approval of the full board is needed, but that is considered a formality when the board meets today.

The contract doesn't change Miles' salary, which will rise to at least $2.8 million annually based on LSU's SEC championship this year.

If LSU wins the national championship, the contract provides Miles would become among the nation's top-earning college football coaches. University officials estimate that would put his annual earnings somewhere between $3.2 million and $3.5 million.

USA STARTS FOOTBALL: The University of South Alabama's board of trustees voted unanimously to start a football program in a long-discussed move.

The university plans to field a team starting in 2009 and move to the Football Bowl Subdivision by 2013.
