I read that the punks who were arrested for murdering Sean Taylor are being charged with "unpremeditated murder." What is this?
Are we trying to be creative with how we word the taking of an innocent human life? What happened to capital murder? The taking of a life during the commission of a felony should not be treated any different than if someone were to take time to plan the taking of a life. We need to dismiss the notion of black-on-black crime, white-on-white or any other ethnic, racial or popular victimization cliche and call all of it what it is - "criminal-on-victim" crime.
While kids are growing up, the difference between right and wrong is inherently learned. To suggest that the inability to tell the difference is due to your upbringing, your environment or because you are poor is an unacceptable excuse. So many people of all colors and ethnic backgrounds have excelled and made major positive impacts on the world even though they were poor while growing up.
Stop the excuses; stop the apologies. Treat criminals as what they truly are: people who don't give a damn about you, me or any other law-abiding citizen and put them where they belong and leave them there.
