She's one of the best-known CEOs in the Tampa Bay area.
She heads an organization with a $43 million budget and 120 full-time employees. Her organization's always in the spotlight, and a half- million people walk through the doors every year.
Her name is Judy Lisi, and she heads the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
The center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the arts and education, but peer behind the curtain and you'll find accountants, marketing reports and Microsoft Excel worksheets. The center, Lisi says, is proof that the worlds of art and business aren't as far apart as people might think.
What's the secret for running a business successfully? What can other businesses learn from the center? We asked Lisi for her tips, and here's what she said:
1. Believe in and love your product or service.
2. Make it accessible and user friendly.
3. Set standards high.
4. Go beyond the expectations of your customers and stakeholders.
5. Maximize resources.
6. Minimize expenses - but never at the expense of quality or customer service.
7. Surround yourself with great and dedicated people.
8. Never rest on your laurels. You're only as good as the last show.
9. Look at "rough waters" as an exciting ride.
10. Laugh, laugh, laugh.
