Man Working On Van Killed In Accident

TAMPA - An 84-year-old man was killed Sunday morning after another man backed up a van into a car that then struck the victim, Hillsborough deputies said.

Alberto Martinez Guerra, of 8629 Limestone Ave., was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital, authorities said. The death appears to be accidental, deputies said.

At 10 a.m., Leonel Ortega Gomez, 72, of the same address, was working on a van parked at the residence. Guerra was sitting behind a 1980 Mercedes Benz that was in back of the van.

Gomez put the van in reverse, striking the Mercedes and pushing it into Guerra, authorities said.
