Published: December 9, 2007

TAMPA - Hillsborough County deputies arrested a Tampa couple Friday night and accused the pair of keeping illegal drugs in their home while four children, ages 12 and younger, were nearby.

Daniel Luis Quinones, 27, and Yulmary Velazquez, 28, both of 14407 Hensel Lane, No. 116, were arrested after Quinones sold crack cocaine to a deputy, a criminal arrest affidavit states.

A sheriff's report says deputies searched the couple's home and found more than 28 grams of cocaine, heroin packaged for delivery, marijuana and a digital scale. The drugs were within immediate access of the children.

"The house was supposedly dirty, and clothes were everywhere," sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. "Supposedly the kids were unbathed."

The children, ages 6, 7, 9 and 12, have been placed with a family member. More information about them and their relationship to Quinones and Velazquez was unavailable Monday.

Quinones, while in custody, kicked out the rear window of a deputy's cruiser.

Quinones faces four counts of child neglect and two counts of cocaine possession. He also faces one count each of trafficking in cocaine, delivery of cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to sell or deliver, obstructing or opposing an officer without violence, criminal mischief, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Quinones also was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of burglary of an occupied structure and battery. He was released Thursday after posting $8,000 bail, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Web site.

He now is being held at Orient Road Jail. Bail has not been set.

Velazquez is charged with four counts of child neglect and one count each of trafficking in cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to sell or deliver, possession of cocaine, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She also is being held at Orient Road Jail. Bail has not been set.
