HIGHLAND CITY - Polk County deputies arrested a 31-year-old man for sexual battery after he broke into two homes, claiming to be aroused from cocaine and methamphetamine use, authorities said.

James Taylor, of 5531 3rd St., was on probation for burglary of an occupied dwelling, deputies said.

Taylor was charged with two counts armed burglary of a dwelling, burglary of an occupied dwelling, attempted sexual battery, two counts of battery, theft during burglary, resisting an officer without violence and providing a false name to law enforcement.

Taylor broke into the first home at 2:30 a.m. The victim was sleeping in her bedroom when she felt a hand next to her, deputies said. Taylor jumped on the victim, grabbed her arms and pinned her on the bed, authorities said.

She struggled and yelled for help. The suspect jumped off the victim and ran. He fled down the hallway and crashed into the victim's 16-year-old son before leaving the house. The suspect left his shoes and a pornographic DVD.

As deputies investigated the break in, another emergency call about a similar crime came in from a nearby house. The suspect had broken into another house.

The second victim was asleep in her bedroom. She woke up and noticed someone had turned off the television and closed the bedroom door.

She heard noises but could not see anyone, authorities said. She called out and heard no response. The suspect grabbed her arm and said "it's Jimmy," deputies said. She ran to the bedroom door and yelled for the suspect to leave the house.

The suspect pulled up his pants and ran from the house, deputies said. Deputies found the suspect hiding on the front porch of a third residence.

Deputies said the suspect admitted to smoking methamphetamine and using cocaine during the night. He told authorities the drugs had sexually aroused him and he had gone to the first residence in hopes of having sex with the victim. He also admitted to taking a pornographic DVD into her home hoping she would watch it and have sex with him.

It was discovered that an undisclosed amount of cash was missing from the second residence, and that Taylor had a pocket knife during the crimes.

Taylor was being held without bond charged with violation of probation, according to records.
