TAMPA - A 7-year-old boy bitten by a venomous water moccasin Sunday is in fair condition at University Community Hospital, a hospital spokesman said today.
The boy, whose name was not immediately available, has received 12 vials of antivenin serum, hospital spokesman Will Darnall said. The boy is in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit.
The boy was bitten on the left foot while playing in a neighbor's yard in the New Tampa area, Darnall said.
"The moccasin was in the yard, and the boy ran by, didn't notice [the moccasin] at all, and it struck him in the left foot," he said.
The hospital treats four to six snakebite victims a year, Darnall said.
