TAMPA - A man released from state prison last month after serving five years for armed robbery wound up in jail Sunday after police said he robbed a Shell gas station.
Willie Lee Anderson, 55, of no permanent address, was held without bail at Orient Road Jail today, charged with felony armed robbery.
The charge is a familiar one for Anderson, Tampa police said. Florida Department of Corrections records show he was released from a state prison Nov. 23 after serving more than five years for armed robbery and aggravated assault.
According to police, Anderson entered the Shell station at 902 E. Hillsborough Ave. about 8:55 p.m. Sunday, implied he had a gun and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied, and Anderson ran with the cash, police said.
An officer caught Anderson moments later in the 900 block of East Mohawk Avenue and recovered the money, police said.
