TAMPA - Some television viewers who want to watch government programming will have to pay a little extra to tune in beginning Tuesday.
The move affects Bright House Networks subscribers who do not have a digital television or cable service that requires a converter box. They will have to pay $1 a month for a digital converter to watch several government, education and public access channels. The channels also will be moving on the channel lineup, no longer occupying a lower tier of channel numbers.
The new lineup will be as follows:
•CTTV, which broadcasts programming produced by the city of Tampa, including city council meetings, will move to channel 615.
•HTV22, which broadcasts meetings and programming produced by Hillsborough County, will be on channel 622.
•The Education Channel, which broadcasts school board meetings and educational programming, will move to channel 614. The Explorer Channel, another educational station, will move to channel 620.
•The Tampa Bay Community Network, also known as public access, will be available to city residents on channels 949 and 950. Unincorporated county residents will receive only channel 950.
Verizon subscribers' channels will be unaffected.
Tammy Peralta, station manager for HTV22, said she hopes loyal viewers will follow the channels to their new homes. By midyear, the station hopes to broadcast county meetings on its Web site, allowing people without cable to view the station's programming.
