Lafave Court Date Changed To Next Week

TAMPA - Debra Lafave will have her next day in court Dec. 18 rather than Jan. 7.

A judge at that time will hear charges that the former middle school teacher has violated conditions of the house arrest she received for having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Lafave, 27, was arrested Dec. 4 and accused of having private and sexual conversations with a 17-year-old female co-worker at the restaurant where she worked.

Reports say the two talked about "family problems, friends, high school, personal life, boyfriend issues and sexual issues."

Lafave has completed two of her three years of house arrest.

In 2005, she pleaded guilty to charges of lewd and lascivious battery and as a condition of house arrest, she is not allowed unsupervised contact with minors.

Recent Prison Inmate Accused Of Robbery

TAMPA - A man released from state prison last month after serving five years for armed robbery wound up in jail Sunday after police said he robbed a Shell gas station.

Willie Lee Anderson, 55, no permanent address, was held without bail at Orient Road Jail on Monday, charged with felony armed robbery.

The charge is a familiar one for Anderson, Tampa police said. Florida Department of Corrections records show he was released from a state prison Nov. 23 after serving more than five years for armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Man, 20, Has Sex With Girl, Report Says

A 20-year-old Palm Harbor man had sex with a 13-year-old girl in an apartment complex restroom Sunday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Aubrey G. Griffin of 31177 U.S. 19 N., Apartment 606, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Monday and charged with lewd and lascivious battery.

The 13-year-old is an acquaintance of Griffin's, officials said.

Deputies said Griffin engaged in sexual activity with the girl between 4 and 6 a.m. Sunday in a restroom in the gym-pool area where Griffin lives at Stonegate apartments.

The girl told a friend about the encounter, that friend told her own parents, they notified the girl's parents and the girl's parents called the sheriff's office, authorities said.

Woman Critically Injured In Wreck Is Identified

TARPON SPRINGS - A woman who was critically injured in a motorcycle wreck Sunday evening has been identified as Tammy L. Gardner, 36, of Tarpon Springs.

Gardner was a passenger on a 2004 KTM motorcycle that crashed into a Lexus at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Huey Avenue about 6 p.m., Tarpon Springs police said.

She was not wearing a helmet, police said. She was in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Lt. Barbara Templeton said.

Neighbor Tells Deputies Of Masked Individuals

LUTZ - A neighbor interrupted a burglary Monday by calling the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to report a suspicious car parked in a cul-de-sac and a masked person wandering nearby, officials said.

Deputies charged Henao Alexander, 18, of Tampa and two Tampa 16-year-olds with felony armed burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

The sheriff's office responded to a house in the 2600 block of Golden Antler Lane after receiving the neighbor's phone call and found Lopez sitting in a 2000 Toyota Celica, officials said.

Deputies with a law enforcement dog found the others hiding inside the house's attic.

Driver Strikes Tree On I-275, Dies

LAND O' LAKES - A 29-year-old Port Richey woman died early Monday morning after her car swerved off Interstate 275 near mile marker 57 and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Tina Carbone of 10927 Inglewood Ave. was northbound in a 1995 Buick LeSabre about 12:30 a.m. when she entered the outside shoulder, overcorrected and left the road on the left side, hitting a tree, troopers said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
