Regarding "Chats With Teen Girl Get Lafave Arrested" (Metro, Dec. 5):
Stop the presses. Call out the National Guard. Fly in all the network anchors for the story of the year: Debra Lafave speaks to co-worker.
Lafave is accused of having an intimate discussion with a 17-year-old co-worker which was deemed a violation of her sentencing guidelines and she was re-arrested. As a result she has already lost her waitressing job and must now appear in court conceivably facing up to three years in prison.
Sometimes it is difficult for the average taxpayer to make sense of the balance of day-to-day priorities in the real world. On the one hand, violent criminals are being released on the street every day before their sentences are fully served because prisons are overcrowded. On the other, the system seems to be doing everything it can to push Lafave into prison. The puzzling question is why?
