Changing the world starts with changing yourself. If you're looking to lose weight, quit smoking or get your finances in order, we have some local resources that could help you reach your goal.

Quit Smoking

A smoke-free support group meets from noon to 1 p.m. Sundays in the first-floor boardroom of Morton Plant Hospital, 300 Pinellas St., Clearwater. Call (727) 461-8904.

The FreshBreak Smoking Cessation Program is a free or low-cost smoking cessation program for the Tampa Bay area. Counseling is typically offered in small groups that meet in the early evening. For information, call (813) 745-1751.

The Florida Quit-for-Life Line offers help. Call 1-877-822-6669 or 1-866- 228-4327 for the deaf or hard of hearing.

The local chapter of the American Lung Association also may be of help to quitters. Call (727) 347-6133.

Get free blood pressure checks from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at South Florida Baptist Hospital, 301 N. Alexander St., Plant City. No appointment necessary. Call (813) 754-4444.

There's a free wellness clinic from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of each month at Bayonet Point Oxygen and Medical Supply, 13730 Little Road, Hudson. Weight screening, oxygen checks, vision screening and blood pressure readings are conducted. Call (727) 862-4644.

Check out the free aerobics classes for adults are from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Highpoint YMCA, 5345 Laurel Place, Clearwater. Call (727) 507-9622.

A certified trainer teaches fitness classes for all skill levels at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Apollo Beach Park, 664 Golf and Sea Blvd. The one-hour classes offer cardiopulmonary, toning and flexibility segments. The cost is $4 per class. Call Bibi Coluccio at (813) 645-5895.

Preregistration and a $5 seat deposit are required. Dates and topics are: Jan. 24, developing a financial plan; Jan. 29, using credit wisely and credit scores; and Feb. 7, saving and investing.
