Coach Staying Humble

Published: December 11, 2007

GAINESVILLE - As Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen spoke to reporters Monday, DT Clint McMillan walked past.

"Best quarterbacks coach in America," McMillan yelled.

Mullen has heard that phrase quite a bit the past week, usually coming from the mouth of Gators QB Tim Tebow. Tebow used those words in his acceptance speeches for the Davey O'Brien Award (best quarterback), the Maxwell Award (best overall player) and the Heisman Trophy.

So how will Mullen deal with such lofty praise?

"I'll get some kind of aggression and start screaming at him," Mullen joked. "That'll get him right back to normal.

"I don't think, with Tim's personality, we'll have any issues with any of those sorts of things."

CUNNINGHAM QUIET: Florida DE Jermaine Cunningham declined an interview request that would have allowed him to tell his side of the story concerning his arrest last week outside a Gainesville sandwich shop. Cunningham was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery after he was accused of throwing empty cups at a clerk who asked him to pay for a bag of potato chips.

Co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison declined to address any potential punishment Cunningham might face, but he said Cunningham has responded well.

"Guys make mistakes," Mattison said. "Sometimes they're in the wrong place at the wrong time."
